The Six Steps of ArcSTOP

1. Discovery & Engineering

2. ID & Documentation

3. Program Preparation & Admin

4. Training & Certification

5. Field Execution & Doc Control

6. Program Review & Update

1. Discovery and Engineering

The first step in our ArcSTOP program is the discovery process as we analyze your system and help you select the proper gear or PPE.

< Visiting sites and perform field surveys

< Analyzing data and update engineering records if necessary

< Performing engineered short circuit study

< Conducting risk assessment

< Classifying electrical equipment

< Establishing arc flash boundaries

Sometimes for a new construction project, data is pulled from the construction drawings. At an existing facility, Step One requires site visits to verify the engineering data and drawings (to the extent that such exist).

Also included in Discovery are interviews and data gathering on your facility’s operating process associated with issuing and maintaining records that involve work tickets /purchase orders for electrical maintenance activities.

The engineering and analysis derived from Discovery & Engineering results in updated risk assessments, recommended system improvements (risk/reward notes), engineered coordination studies, and updated electrical riser diagrams. Recommendations to potential changes are noted in this step.

Using an analytical method and following the IEEE 1584, we implement a 10 step approach to as part of your Arc Flash Analysis study. Analytical modeling is performed using SKM System Analysis, Inc. Power Tools.
